Judy Tawhiti Pauline SchaferSchafer.Do you remember whether an Italian family lived in house in photo back in early 60s.!!
Pauline Schafer Hi Judy, yes, the Mossiglios. And Huey Keenan lived on the left of the church.
Mandy Bruce My family lived in Taylorville in about 1966 we lived not far from the blacksmiths. Dandos lived next door they had two daughters Jance and wendy we were good friends there was a tree we use to ay in it was good to slide down. We also went over that bridge in a bus once a week to Dobson roller skating in the Dobson hall lots of fun our last name was Ross we went to Talorville school our teacher was Mr Taylor.
Mary Moffitt That little church had a very steep drive. Early cars had to back up it because their petrol would not flow if they drove the normal way.
Was this a Presbyterian Church? Can't remember. The Anglican one was in Wallsend. It was just above and along from the hall and the hotel which burned down
Patrick Casserly It was a catholic Church my sister Carol was married In that church I was was a altar boy at the church
Judy Tawhiti Patrick Casserly u a alter boy Pat...lol...Suppose all the boys got a turn.
Pauline Schafer I was confirmed in the church at Brunner.
Judy Tawhiti Pauline Schafer I do so remember the church, but not that house.
Margaret Mulloy It was the catholic church walked most Sunday from Taylorville to go there
Patrick Casserly Wasn’t there another church in Wallsend I’m sure there was
Mary Moffitt Patrick Casserly Was the Presbyterian church in Dobson. It was there by 1960s, but not sure earlier.
Mary Moffitt Mum and Dad were married in the Anglican Church in Wallsend. Not sure why. Neither was Anglican. Thought maybe the Presbyterian one was too far at Dobson, but that was only two miles further than Wallsend. Stillwater did not have a church, and I don't remember Taylorville having one either.
Maybe the churches were more accessible on the main road and in the central area.
The area was called Coaldale at one time for some purposes.
Patrick Casserly Mary Moffitt or was main road Dobson and my be it was move down from waiuta or the one
Brian Kelly Going to church there on a winter morning made hell seem like a good option. I had one shot at being an alter boy but because i was a mate of Patrick Casserly they sacked me
Patrick Casserly Brian Kelly you cheeky bugger Brian you lead me astray all the time I Worked in Dobson mine with your father and apologise for you
Bruce Lightfoot Brian Kelly did it folks have a house just along from the pub by that macrocarper tree.
Pauline Schafer bruce, the Kelly’s lived next our old house, on the Wallsend side. Their house was pulled down when we were kids.
Anne Kelly Pauline Schafer Wrong Kellys Pauline. Brian Kelly is our cousin who lived in Wallsend. We all went up to the Brunner church, until the new 1 was built in Dobson.
Pauline Schafer Anne Kelly sorry Anne, I cant remember where Brian’s family lived.
Pauline Schafer The Wallsend church was defunct when I was a kid Pat.
Bruce Lightfoot Pauline Schafer were was that house shown,in relationship to lately Drummond.as all the town plans had a church just behind her house.had it in my head she had gifted the land to the church but lands office denied there was a title ever issued yet it was shown
Bruce Lightfoot Pauline Kate,s place.
Pauline Schafer Katie’s house was on the Brunner side of your new Wallsend house Bruce.
Mary Moffitt Where was the house which was covered by the landslide in relation to this church in Brunner? Memory must be fading?
Pauline Schafer Mary Moffitt that house was on the brick chimney side of our (Len Green’s) house. About opposite the road from the Taylorville turnoff.
Patrick Casserly
Patrick Casserly Don’t remember that Mary do you remember Roger Hill Berryhill and Rhona Hill Kate Drummond you Always remember or where those families are gone
Elaine Lawson Stone I remember standing on our veranda and watching the Wallsend pub burn down. Dad and brother Bill were in the Brunner fire brigade. Bill was original Fire Chief and dad was Motorman. The fire engine was kept in Bills garage until new station was built.
Patrick Casserly Elaine Lawson Stone yes we call it little flick was there a Lady fire chief
Elaine Lawson Stone Patrick Casserly Joyce Creagh and Nancy Wylie were in the brigade and I think Brian Creagh was Fire Chief after Bill.
Mary Moffitt Patrick Casserly There were four women trained to get the fire-engine to the fire and get things set up before the men could get away from work to join them. One of the men who trained them was Alf Smith. Two are mentioned above, one other was Rene Smith, my aunt, and the fourth I forget just now. They have been shown on this site before. Two women could manage to hold the big hose together.
Alf wrote to the National body to get the women recognised as firefighters, but they would not accept them. I typed out the letter for him. The men were pretty peeved about it.
