Linda Joy Some of my earliest memories were living here with my family, what I remember is that my parents Stan and Naomi Knipe ran this as a boarding house. I would have only been a toddler then though.

Read Hudson We stayed there for some weeks when my dad was transferred to Greymouth in the 1950 s.
Laurie Anisy Jaycees brought it for meeting rooms(maybe around 1970).We started having working bees to paint it on weekends but it was going to be a long process.Jim Anderson (RIP) came up with the idea we paint the entire in 24 hours and we did,great effort.(100 gallons of paint and 250 gallons of beer).Later sold to the Knipes as a boarding house.
Brian Hope Remember that weekend well.Brave ones painted the roof while roped to the chimney ( Health and Safety issue there ).

I remember my first job as a trainee telephone technician and being invited by some of the senior staff to a drinks session in this pub. One of the guys girlfriends had received a series of obscene phone calls which had never been traced although the police were aware of the matter. Bugger me if she wasnt called to the phone -yes it was you know who.Uunbeknowns to this goon a coupla of the techs dashed around to the exchange and traced via the switch banks the number of the caller -a very close phone box.Yup another call and two large gents in blue were waiting as he left the phonebox forever bewildered at how hed been caught!

Bob Madden was John Logan the boxers trainer early 60's In a room next to bar. Stayed there for a few weeks while pushing gravel around for Harbours Board reclamation from dredging ops. Was good, no 6 o'clock close. Kevin O'Regan
