Date Created14th March 2020CommentsAnn Knipe I have photo's of this and I think that it was the Trans Scenic steam train excursion which did a trip around the South Island. In 2002. And possibly it did a day trip to Hokitika but I'm not sure on that one. Neville Roberts may know more about this excursion..

I used to travel on them every day. Worked in Brickhouse lived in Runanga

Wonderful machines. We loved the sounds they made when we were children. Using these meant that many children were able to venture away from home and be safe because the trains had a guard. We all knew them by their first names or a nickname. I remember Chappy from Stillwater. The giant machines seemed no more noisy or dangerous to us then than many vehicles today, especially a motorbike near here which wakes everyone when it feels like it.
