Lovely lady her husband Harry Bassett was rascal . sniff out our home brew operation and we had give him some to keep mouth shut. Clare Grey the cook got wind of it so had to provide to keep her mouth shut.

Evelyn. I remember you. Yes the hostel of hard knocks. 1st couple of days into my service ln the NZ ARMY I was well prepared as i know how wash my own clothes and iron them . a lot of the guys complain about the food . when I told about our meals they didn't believe me. We did it rough

A wonderful lady and a fabulous Matron while I was there 1974-1977. I really enjoyed hostel life and all the opportunities available to us. Linda was always available to assist with everything from our hostel floats, fundraising efforts, planning of midnight feasts, and for myself personally during exam time she use to come down the dorm and wake me up so I could get extra study in before the wake up bell.

I also have great memories of hostel life between 77 and 80. Loved sports day, us against the rest of the school, we had some great athletes. Mrs Bassett and Clare were awesume along with many others. Never seemed to get caught raiding the pantry and having a midnight feast and the quick or the dead with the talcum powder and dorm raids.....and the occasional flour bomb over the shower cubicle - sorry sis....!!

My Nana and Pa Linda and Harry Bassett. I loved them so much and miss my Nana my friend beautiful person. Pa was so placid. Such fun memories staying at the hostel, Nana and the staff worked so hard
