DescriptionOn the school run I guess, or is it a Sunday picnic outing perhaps?

Love this photo from a family collection on my mother's side and, therefore, likely to be somewhere on the West Coast (Reefton, Black's Point, Crushington) .

Of course, no names on the mounting card and I'm wondering about a date, based on what they are wearing and carrying. Would like to see what commentary this photo generates, as it would be great to give these cute kids a new reality beyond that box of photos.

Keith Funnell Judi Edridge ... wow, this is soooo cool ! Were your family actually living in Reefton or were they at Black’s Point at some time?
Black's Point is where the McGregor family lived, which is where this photo has come through from. Any guess at a possible decade the photograph may have been taken?

Keith Funnell Judi Edridge this photo is on mounted card, so was a well regarded copy I assume, and is part of a collection coming from the daughter of John and Elizabeth McGregor who lived at Black's Point from about 1893 through until the 1930s when both had passed away. John was the manager of the battery located on Franklyn Street at Blacks Point, and the family lived in the battery managers house there. One of their eight children, Isabella (Kate McGregor) b: 1892 went to Black's Point school, and it is her branch of the family who I am guessing that may have been the recipient of the photo. The other likely contender may have been her husband Alf Wilson, who was a miner at Blacks Point in 1914 when he married Kate and they left to live in Roxburgh when married. A third contender may have been Helen McGregor (b: 1895) who also went to Black's Point school, and was an avid collector of postcards. As both Kate and Helen's family ended up living close together in their later years, some of the photos in the family collection have become merged. Either way however the photo has come through the McGregor family of Black's Point.

Catherine, Your namesake is holding the pony that took them to school. Ellen, first on horse looked identical to Mum. Then Betty, and last Margaret, Ellen’s sister. They all had the same grandparents.

The boys in the second photo are John and Sammy, brothers to Ellen and Margaret. The girl behind the boys is also their sister, another namesake of yours, Cath. Last of all is Peg, Mum’s oldest sister.

The feisty darling holding the horse lived most of her life in Stillwater, where of course she had horses. She was one of the first women ever to get a taxi licence. Her parents, our grandparents retired there for the last 20 years (approx) of their lives in Stillwater as well.
