Date Created26th March 2020CommentsGlenn Johnston Thanks Laura. Plenty of names to mull over! Does anyone know more about S. De Fillipi for whom there is no occupation or residential info given? As a kid in the 1960's, an old to me then, Mr De Fillipi lived in Rolleston Street, Hokitika. De Fillipi is a name associated with the Upper Buller Gorge area in the old days. Wonder if there is a connection?

Margaret Atkinson Hi Glenn, I think Steve De Filippi had a farm at Kowhitirangi then they retired to Rolleston St, he is the Grandfather of Colin DeFilippi who drives trotting horses. Colin's parents were Rod and Mavis (who was a Winter from here)

Linda Skelton Rod and Mavis De Fillippi lived at Maruia and owned /ran a sawmill at Reids creek with Gordon and Irene Havill. The boys went to school at Maruia for a while. Irene was a De Fillippi and i remember meeting her Dad at springs Junction later at Springs Junction when they had the Garage also farm.

Glenn Johnston Now does anyone know anything of F. Krako(w)ski? I think there was a Krakowski or two in the Hoki area circa the early 1970's.

Dorothy Wills I was at school at the Maruia School with Michael and Colin DeFillipi although they are quite a bit younger than me

Sandy Southerwood I was at school with Colleen De Fillipi at St Mary's in Hokitika in the late '40's.She was a good basketball player.

Glenn Johnston Further to names and localities. S.G. Ferguson is Samual Ferguson of Ferguson's in South Westland. He was a farmer and had a hotel/accomodation house on his property which was known as Fern Grove back then. (now Ferguson Farms south of Ferguson's Bush) Thus the J. Douglas, sawmill hand of Fern Grove was also from what we now know as Ferguson's.
