Boiler house,steam engine, winch and 2 large wheels which laying in the bush behind the poppet head.These would have come off the top of the poppet head. The last picture shows remains of the battery sited on Big River.Note the remains of the pipeline behind the battery. A water race brought water down the valley from a dam source upstream.

Glenn Johnston I visit the area semi regularly for recreation and still find interesting new things each trip. I had a great contract job back in 2011 "field walking" areas for Oceana Gold eastward back down the Big River road toward the Globe over the dividing ridge into some of the Inangahua tributaries. Much indication of old mining for both hard rock and alluvial gold plus coal mining was encountered along with signs of former logging. Tracks, tramways (aerial and ground), former habitation sites etc. were present.
Dave Maitland I helped a couple of other chaps replace a lot of the old timbers on the Head above the shaft many years ago, for the NZFS, some interesting trips flying out with Ivan Wilson dragging the slung load under the chopper down the shingle scree toward the battery trying to get air speed. great days

Gavin Davy Did a lot of trips into Big River as a kid with my family, it was quite a mission getting in there for many years, 4x4 track really. The old tin town was still standing, lined with TNT boxes and papered with the old Auckland weekly news. Great adventures for us at the time.
