Wayne Garraway Carolyn Luck interesting that your family moved in 1946. I seem to recall hearing that the same person that owned 141 also owned 143. They moved out of 141 cause the landlord wanted to renovate so shifted them to 143. Does this make sense to you Ron Phyl Lucas.
Carolyn Luck Wayne Garraway no that's not correct, have sent you a pm
Ron Phyl Lucas Wayne Garraway sorry memory not so good it could be we shifted to Chch 1942 and l had just. Started school
Wayne Garraway Ron Phyl Lucas going by some of mums notes, left Kotuku in 1937 and shifted to 141 Shakespeare Street and later into 149 Shakespeare Street. In 1942 moved to Marsden Road and in 1943 moved to Garvins Rd, Hornby. I do have a photo somewhere of the Marsden Road house but no number.
Carolyn Luck It's my family home,
141 Shakespeare street,
Greymouth.
My parents Dorothy (née Congreve) and Harry McMath got married 1.10.1946 and bought the house from Tom Learmont and his wife.
I got a real surprise when I just saw this now
Pauline Hadfield Carolyn we lived there from 2004 to 2009. Looks a bit different now but I can recognise the bones of it. Could pm you some photos of it when I owned it if you like!
Carolyn Luck Pauline Hadfield , my parents in 1956 altered it, added another bedroom and lounge when my grandfather came to live with us
Carolyn Luck Pauline Hadfield , that would be lovely thank you very much. Just wish my parents were still alive to see all this.
Pauline Hadfield Carolyn and my father-in-law(at the time) Gordon Shrimpton was one of the builders who did those alterations! Will do tonight as working from home during the day
Carolyn Luck Pauline Hadfield , oh yes Bill Frost and Gordon Shrimpton.
They were also great friends of my parents.
I could tell you a few stories of the alterations and my 6 year old brother and what they did to him!!
I went through High School with I think it was Bruce? The younger son?
Carolyn Luck Pauline Hadfield , small world
Sonja Macfarlane I know that house - my Dad (John Bateman nearly bought it in 1973 for $4000....
Daphne Smithers
Daphne Smithers I knew I should have recognised it!

Helen Green Remember house.
Phil Bell-Marchant Geoffrey Bell, is this anywhere near your old place on that street?Don Hutton Between Marlborough St and Sweetman's shop (south
Janice Oconnor Jeanne Oates ,long time no see ,how are you and your family. Remember so well working with you and Graeme
Don Hutton Houses like this one backed on to Rugby Park I think and there were railway houses on the other side of the road where my contemporaries like Ken Mason and Ron Boot lived.
Carolyn Luck Don Hutton , no incorrect they backed onto Milton Road, the other side of Milton Road backed onto Rugby Park.
Yes the railway houses were opposite in Shakespeare Street. The Mason family lived opposite Mum and Dad, with their three sons,Ken, and I can't just think of the other two boys names.
The boots were up a bit further nearer to intersection of Byron Street
Don Hutton I stand corrected! Ken's brothers were Dan (older) and Hopene (younger). Ron Boot, Ken and I were close friends because we were in the 1st XV at GTHS and the Greymouth Amateur Athletic Club in the 1950s. Ron and I were in the same class at Grey Main (Tainui St) and his wife Betty Bruhn lived up Marsden Road from us. Their kids and ours went to Redwood School together and we're still in touch. Ken and Dianne (nee Neville of Kumara) went to Auckland many years ago where he made a great name for himself in law. We visited them once and had a great reunion. In this photo Ken is telling a story about my Dad "Snowy" Hutton.
Don Hutton The Hughes family lived nearby too.
Carolyn Luck Don Hutton , Andy and Pearl Hughes lived in Milton Road, backed onto Rugby Park and were nearer to Nelson Street/Joyce Crescent, intersection
Don Hutton Carolyn Luck Yes. Their son Ray was my contemporary. Daughter Jeanette was very keen on my brother Graham when they were teenagers!!
Carolyn Luck Don Hutton I think that Jeanette and Raymond have died
Carolyn Luck Don Hutton , your brother Graham was a truly lovely man.
Don Hutton Carolyn Luck Will we march up and down Shakespeare St and Milton Rd and reminisce about the old days?>
Don Hutton Carolyn Luck I knew Ray had died but not Jeanette.
Don Hutton The Learmonts were known to my parents and Tom sounds familiar but possible was older than me.
