Glenn Johnston It is described as being in South Westland but Stafford is not in South Westland! [ A bit of a side track but still history; My understanding is that South Westland is south of the Waitaha River all the way down to the Awarua River at Big Bay. I know the Provincial Councils were short lived and are long gone but they still influence thinking. I think of South Westland as described above, Central Westland being between the Waitaha and Taramakau Rivers. North Westland being north of the Taramakau River taking in the catchments of the Grey River and being the Grey County as per post the Provincial Government era taking in the northern part of the old Westland Province plus a portion of the old Nelson Province]

Dorothy Wills Yes I remember seeing that bridge over 60 years ago I think it was rebuilt after the Murchison earthquake and was repaired completely after (Monty Warner)? Went through the side of it can’t remember the date. I can be corrected if I have details wrong.

Noeline McCaughan Possibly name for engineer who oversaw the construction. We (myself and two brothers when young) would sigh with relief when we got to thhe bridge as we realised the scary trip up from Reefton was alsmost over .
