On the door lintel is the wording '' Licenced To Sell Spirituous Liquor '' and on the window transom at right is the title '' Licencee '' opposite the name at the left. This signage over the threshold of licenced premises was a legal requirement under the Sale of Liquor Act.
The actively stooped man standing on the step is presenting the classic pose of a pipe smoking gentleman plugging his pipe with tobacco. An all so familiar sight to young baby boomers. They do it quite differently these days!!
All the hallmarks of the Bealey Hotel seem to be present so the inscription on the back of the photo should be given credence.
