John Sweeney Mick Maroney is the roadman at the Omoeroa River in this picture. Very colourful Irishman who later retired to Hokitika where he propped up the bar at the Southland Hotel most afternoons.Kevin Voigt I used to pu Mike in hokitika after been on bash ,in log trucks take him home to his hut , did this once went in to hut for drinks, 3 am it was he went into bed room out with paper bag bag told me that count it £ 25oo.o.o in it and hut wasn't even locked Mike did nttrust banks the hut &Mike long gone

Donald Mathias beautiful cambered corners. I remember riding up from Haast to Franz Joseph in the mid seventies in 1hr 40 min on a 350. Was a great ride that fine day.

Doug Cunniffe Ferguson Bros built some parts of it there were others contracted to build other parts of the Paringa to Hasst section as well. I worked on the Maraki bluff section which was contracted to the Robinson Bros

Brian Gus Heveldt Those people who built a lot of the West Coast roads could still teach the Road Workers Of today a thing or two.I remember saying to my Wife Maureen a few weeks ago when we were going to Christchurch that where they are abseiling and doing all that rock work up past the Bealey,that Basil Piner would have done that Job in a fraction of the time that it has taken.He would have blown half the hill away and cleaned up and Job completed and today they would be still trying to get consents and complete the paper work.

Yes it did. Lovely hard plastic covered bench seats. Even two front seat belts. I used to practice parallel parking on the Haast Aerodrome. Plenty of room
