Myron Caldwell I had to stop and briefly think, why did I know that name. Never saw it of course. I recall Tiroroa where my parents lived briefly during the big construction of the road and rai. My father operated a steam shovel on the railway construction but don't what years.l.

Side and the word "road" is actually the bed for railway to follow. Vern Pattison yes a small room like that if the fire was roaring as those big chimneys suggest would have been good for drying damp clothes. Tough men regar…

The accommodation was all on the main road or south side of Buller River. Access to workings by bridges and punts as railway was built in sections

I had a neighbor when I was living in Westport in 1990. Her dad lived there and worked on the railway and was left as the caretaker when work was suspended during depression. Said they crossed the river to the different work faces by boat and swing bridges.

Looking at the photo they must have had vehicular access of some sort but guess if ROW was formed from Westport end and tunnels were through guess that explains. It looks like river gravel. Guessing only
