Judi Mears Many students in the next few weeks will be seeking information, photos reports and interviews with older relatives and neighbours regarding the Polio Epidemic and the 1918 Influenza Epidemic on the Coast, alongwith their own poetry, and accounts of their lockdown experiences. These contributions are going to be collected and compiled by Marsden Valley Education Centre, Shantytown.

Quentin Johansson OMG this is so cool, I remember her uncle Jimmy mum as Maori Toua that's what I called her because my Toua passed away before I was born. Such a lovely lady, and how awesome Toua gran doing all that for everyone, she brought up my Poua from a little boy.

Hamiria Hutana The first person I thought when we first went into lockdown was my Taua Lala (Wikitoria). I prayed to her that she would take care of us all.
Such an inspiring story, Taua was only 16. Everyone they cared for made a full recovery. Taua says that the influenza struck during whitebait season and she remembered seeing the river teeming with whitebait, but everyone was too sick to catch them! Taua Lala lived to the grand age of 94. Thanks for sharing this story
