DescriptionGreat to learn that the Hokitika Guardian has been microfiche and is now available on Google in "Papers Past".
Some years ago I raised the issue - the copies held in the Hokitika Museum were so vulnerable and needed to be protected- and researching was very difficult because the papers were so fragile that Museum quite properly required that Museum staff turn the pages for you.
So great praise for whoever fkund the significant funds to get this done.
In "Lockdown" a great filler-inner of time. This morning I found a Public Notice that I will be able to include in Gentle Giant now ready to go to the publisher - an anouncement of a Ball to welcome my Dad home from England (Gentlemen 2/6 Ladies 2/0) and in tbe same column an advertisement for my grandfather's restaurant announcing that oysters were now available.
The Personal Colums are intriguing - Annie Smith would be intrigued by the calibre of the guests listed at the Fox Glacier Hotel in the past week and while it was four years away from the start of the 2nd World War there was a lot of international news that led up to the conflict.Map^[1]ContributorRussell King
