DescriptionThis photo was taken by Kevin Molloy of Kotuku while he was on Active Duty in Italy during WW2. The photo shows some of Kevin's mates siting on an abandoned German Tiger Tank. The Tiger Tank was Germany's most formidable one and caused havoc amongst the Allied Armys. It had two major problems though, it was a fuel guzzler and was so heavy it couldn't cross bridges and would get stuck crossing water. It is not known whether this one was just abandoned or broke down.

Robin Gibbens Best tank off WW2 . Almost unstoppable .They cost to build the price of two fighter planes. The Germans never had that many of then ( luckily)

Ian Andrew Jonson The third major problem for the tank was that it didn't have air cover.

Ricky Gilmore Formidable tank but had it's fair share of problems, major pluses were it's armour and 88mm main gun

Robin Gibbens Ricky Gilmore also the best gun of the war.A late friend that fought against the Germans in Africa told me all about them . He had a lot respect for the 88 was so versatile

Geoffrey Bell Kevin Molloy, who took the photo, and those on the tank were NZ Army Mechanics. They may have been there to see if they could get it going. Just speculation. There is a piece of track on the ground next to the tank.

John Thomson There is at least one, perhaps two at the Tank Museum Bovington in England. It is fully functioning and they have Tiger Days most summers.
