By: Maurice Wilson28th Apr 2020 8:45PMJohnny Wilson is my father, he moved to Tokoroa in 1952 or 1953, I think. He married June Bolitho, they had six children. Christine the eldest, then me,Maurice, I was named after Maurie Tuck. Then came Barry, Alan, Robert and Peter. Dad passed away in 2003,Mum is still with us. Dad'slove of the West Coast never left him and would tell many stories of his early years living on the Coast.
We would love a copy of that photograph,please.

Kevin Douglas: Johnie Wilson was boxing in the late 1940/early 50s, he moved to Tokaroa late 50s. I think, he was son of Jock Wilson brother of Alan and and another whose name escapes me. Jock, Johnnie and Alan all worked at Burke’s Creek coal mine, Alan died at a young age ..1966 I think.

Arthur Bass Kevin Douglas did they live in the state house next to Doc Heaphys ?

Brian Roughan Correct lived next door to Heaphys. Saw Johnny in an exhibition bout with M tuck at Greymouth at a boxing tournament about 1955

John Rosanowski Did Johnnie ever fight Rusty Stuart, another local boxer with good ability ?

Myron Caldwell John Rosanowski. I don't recall them doing so, but they could have. Ray or Rusty was good but rather unconventional in his style. I saw him fight a strong looking lad from Auckland, down in Grey. The Aucklander bounced around and looked very good (at dancing) Rusty just stood there, hands down and waited for his opponent to get close enough. Then he struck and the opponent got a hell of a shock and pulled the pin before the end of round one. He had an interest in a racehorse. He rode it from the Junction to Westport (29mils) then expected it to run well the next day. He had a large family with Eleanor (nee Bowe) From the hard working family of Stuarts as bushmen and millers.

Love these pictures.Our Grandfather Jock Wilson's other son was Jim Wilson. Our Dad Alan passed away from leukaemia in March 1968.
