Ron Lane Brings back memories. Uncle Baz named it after his wife (Aunt Dorie). Dorie was my father's sister. My grandfather Bert Lane was a clerk at the Ruru timber mill and then became a traffic cop in Greymouth until retiring at Blaketown. We lived at South Beach where my father Jack drove for Ogilvie's and then NZR, before we moved to Dunedin in the early 50's. My recollections of Baz were mainly when the Piner family lived out at 12-mile. The fishing boats came later. Amazing how one photo can have the memories flooding back. I thoroughly enjoy this site.

Crow Bay My brother Andy was first skipper He and couple of his crew mates from the sea harvester worked her Murray crewed for him too. I done a few trips as crew on her just before she sold in 1987

Jack Devine Story i heard was the old man bent the prop shaft on a bad bar crossing.. something to do with a bad intermediate set up and had happened previously. Needing to get it fixed, he went to plums place only to find he was up the buller gorge dealing with the slip that blocked the river after the inangahua earthquake. Norma asked if he was going, if he could take plums car up for him with some stuff he needed. When he got to the site, having broken some time records on our atrocious, rough roads ... you can imagine his surprise when plum pushed past to get to the car boot, and started lifting out all the jelly! But when he seen the detonators in the boot as well was the icing on the cake! Plum ended up sitting in the mud on his arse, minus his check for a new shaft.
