Date Created13th May 2020CommentsMahana Nelly we lived in Mawhera were the warehouse is now and back to the intersection to go back to grey or out to Kaiata untill Maehera got to crowded our cheif Tarapuhi had passed and the decision was made to move to Arahura post contact there was a Kainga on both sides of the mawhera river Mawhera on grey side and Aromahana on the north side so its only been since the coming of the first boats into Mawhera that weve lived at Arahura

Ursula Tauwhare Tainui Heather Newby there are headstones in our urupa at Arahura dating back to the 1800s my taua and poua and my taua and pouanui were well established at the Pa before the 1900s it most likely be recorded somewhere in the history books

Mahana Nelly wasnt long after Tarapuhi died and Wereta returned from Canturbury that they moved to Arahura

Ursula Tauwhare Tainui Nell I think aunty Lala was born in 1900 she was the eldest of the whanau and my mum was 1920 so by those dates you can see by them just how far back it will be must check and see who and when arrived first I can remember us children rolling down the old urupa hill inside tractor wheels amazing when you look back how we never went over the side lol there were never any injuries we had mastered our toys xx
