My parents lived in a flat at the back of the store and butcher shop in the late 1940s. That is where the family meet the Elley’s. My parents moved to Ross about 1950. Gordon followed and had a butcher shop there for quite a few years..

I left Ross 1951 and Gordon Elley Snr had been the butcher there for as long as I can remeber before moving to Greymouth. Gordon Jnr had the Lake Mahanipua Hotel in later years then a diary in Christchurch and was also an Electrolux door to door agent. Knocked on my door. Barry had the Recreation Hotel (I think that is the correct name) in Greymouth. Gordon Jnr kept his racehorse Leigh Note next door to us in Ross..Steve Richards
Brings back lots memories Chris
