DescriptionPeople, especially kids who went to the Runanga movies at the miner's hall in the 1960s will have been very familiar with the busy torch of old Jack (baldy) Darwell and the warning,"you'll go oot". Pauline Naylor Gordon Dixon he was a nice man, but as a child, standing there un full uniform, including helmet, he was very intimidating. He knew everyone of us by name too. lol

Claudio Soster I remember one Christmas morning at the Rapahoe hotel having a beer underage with Dad (after Mass ) and before lunch when Dad said Gilmores at the back door.we all picked up our money and filed out past him ..I wonder if Dad playing bowls with him had an influence? These were the days when pubs were closed at 6pm and on Sundays and public holidays. For all that he fitted in well and was respected .
