Trish Rennie My son too spent a large part of his life in what was then the children's ward..Hannan Ward and we developed a great love and respect for "Aunty" May Barltrop ,Joy McGirr and others..Pat Murtha whistling through the ward...the care was pretty special then. Was a very caring environment then...

Bronwyn Pardo Trish Rennie agree - I remember going to visit a younger relative in Hannan Ward when I was about 15 or 16 and next thing I hear "Bronwyn Hibbs, what are you doing here?" Then getting the biggest hug ever from Sister Barltrop - she'd recognised the surname of my relative and mentioned my name to my relative and it went on from there

Donald Pearson Great memories,lived opposite till my teens.

Myron Caldwell they had a great surgeon there for a smaller hospital. Mr Barclay way back in the 50's.

Christine Farrell I was born in there and my daughter too

Heather Newby Once when I was on evening shift about 1971, the camp ground was flooded and a German couple came and asked if they could stay in the ward lounge overnight so we let them stay.. they slept in their sleeping bags on the couches.

Trish Rennie I would be keen to return to the Coast to view them trying to demolish this building...I worked for the engineering firm that did all the steelwork to tie it together...think they will have their work cut out!!!

Ann Knipe I think so too Trish. Both Dad and Russell worked on the construction of it and they both said that it would take one hell of an earthquake to even dent the buildings. It has been interesting to watch both hospitals being built during my working life there. And it will be even more interesting to see it being pulled down.

Noel Thomson yeah i know the person who was foreman of hospital build and he said the same thing.He rekons theres that much steelwork it would hold the Queen Mary.Maybe thats because the plans so they say was to add another story!!!

Brian Beban I agree. That this massive, solid, reinforced concrete building needs to be demolished after only a relatively short life is a mystery. I assume there are many cracks and fissures showing as evidence it is ready to collapse and not some computer calcu…See More

Mike Waghorne I spent the first few months after our arrival from the UK going there once week for injections in the bum because of an allergic reaction to sandfly bites.
