DescriptionA photo from my Dads hunting days,taken of a spiker in the snow grass above Crane Creek with Round Hill in the background.

James Newby.."He used to go shooting with Duncan Wyile,Jimmy Williams among others,but a lot of the time he’d go out alone just with his dog,I went out with a few times but bloody hell he was so fit from working under ground in the Dobson mine ,he would start out at a fast walk and go like that all day and would carry large amounts of meat out.I could never keep up with him so he would stop until he could see you then take off again.Sardines Saveloys,spuds and energy chocolate were his fuel.He’d go around the opshops and buy up woolen jerseys ,long johns ect and leave them in the huts he visited as well.He would tell Duncan that he’d “wear his bloody hips out “if he kept carrying out a whole deer all the time,well from memory Duncan had his hips replaced in his late 40’s."
