DescriptionLars Larsen with his river punt Westport Harbour, Buller River April 1896. Note how the yard-arms of the sailing ships are canted to one side to avoid fouling the movement of coalwagons on top of the coal staithes. The wagons emptied their coal load into the holding bins inside the staithes.

Amazed at how many ships fitted along the wharf. Was the coal delivered around nz or was some shipped overseas .? Then.

Wow, ta. My grandparents lived in Bright Street right facing the river . Edward and Matilda Easton, Edward, Ted worked on the Dredge in the river in 1910
