Jim Lewis March 2016 Waiho flood wiped out the stop bank along from the 30km bend and the river ended up going straight through the hotel. Didnt help that local authorities/contractors removed river gravels and compromised the rock grones in the weeks before. Now both regional and district councils are fighting each other in court to see who takes responsibility for the monumental F up!Anje Kremer
sorry to say there was never a stop bank in front of the hotel in was a access road with rock protectian work in front of it never qualifaid for a stop bank .

there was a stop babnk put up yrs ago to stop sewage ponds getting washed out iworked on it

sewage ponds had their own bank at the rear at the hotel and that had rock work on it .but the front of the hotel had a few groynes .
