Stuart McMillan: Young men dressed up with waist coats and pocket watches, what I didn’t expect to see the hills have no Bush growing on them

Sophie Allan: Stuart, first explorers burned it all, they say you could see their progress from the plaines by the smoke. I think a lot may have been tussock land too though.

Brian Wheatley: At the time this would have been the end of the railway line as the line through the mountains was still being built. The point of transferring between trains and coaches would have moved on as the railway line advanced.

Phil Millar: My Grand Parents (Millar) lived at Cass and they used to call it SIBERIA and was known as such by Railway staff,stationed along the Midland Line.
