It looks a tad old. Get rid of it. I had a 3ry old suffered 3rd deg burns from a heater that had been dumped, we were short of money. I had to go to the loo urgently not giving the heater a thought. Next thing my daughter is screaming, I new the scream… Next thing my daughter is screaming, I new the screaming told me something is terribly wrong. I flew out of loo, and here was my 3 yrs daughter on fire. No ph those days, put fire off her and dashed to neighbours. By this time I was in shock. Ambulance came rather quickly They ask me for a bucket of cold water ? What for I' dint know. My 3 yr old was in hospital 9 weeks. She nearly died a couple of times. But she did pull through. If any one has finished with any electro and dont want any more plz destroy so this will never happen to a another child again.

We had one when living in ChCh. Thank Heaven for vastly improved forms of heating a home e.g heat pumps. Those kerosene heaters were smelly and dangerous.

Fergus Bryant They did smell a bit but if the wick was trimmed and no kero spilt, they were good. We had a kero fridge that could get a bit whiffy but it was out in the shed and used to freeze the tops off the milk bottles, so us kids got a real cream freeze f we didnt get caught.

Rob Elwood Long ago (late 60's) I worked after school in a ChCh hardware store. A regular winter job was riding the big black delivery bike around the streets of Riccarton delivering kerosene refills to the people who ran those things. We also sold the wicks and I often got the job of fitting them. Yes they ponged if the wick was turned up too high (yellow flame) but turned down to the correct height (blue flame) they were inoffensive. The old shop didn't have any built-in heating and sitting on top of the kero heater was a great way to get warm on a winter's morning while waiting for customers.

I’m from the other side of the world, in Merseyside UK, and my grandma used to have two of these Valor heaters in her house. I remember as a child going to the hardware shop to fill the can of paraffin for her. Not something children would be encouraged to do these days.
The smell of these heaters remains one of the sensory memories of childhood. Thanks for rekindling it for me!

I’m from the other side of the world, in Merseyside UK, and my grandma used to have two of these Valor heaters in her house. I remember as a child going to the hardware shop to fill the can of paraffin for her. Not something children would be encouraged to do these days.
The smell of these heaters remains one of the sensory memories of childhood. Thanks for rekindling it for me!
