Earl was a great West Coast Sportsman. A champion cyclist, he also played rugby and represented West Coast as a yachtsman. I last saw Earl when he was managing a hotel just out of Auckland in the 1980s

Bec, yes that was it. I was working on Auckland to Wellington bike Race and popped into the pub to use toilet. I was surprised to see Earl and talk about West Coast cycling. I’m about ten years younger than Earl but my father knew him really well. Dad was president Greymouth Cycling club. I also vaguely remember Earl’s sister - Nola?
