I lived at the littke old sawmill village they bought. I think it was called Te Kopru for awhile before Black Powder bought it. Does anyone know if they still own it?

Phyllis Aberhart it caused a bit of consternation at the time the Black Powder fellas were looking at buying it. The story went around like wildfire the Black Power were buying it.

Having climbed all over the cannon as a kid I had to go along to see it fire!! It was NY eve for year 2000!
This must have been a practice firing.

The cannon is still on the Hoki river bank at the same or much the same spot as in this photo. It is next to a large pohutakawa tree in the historic precinct near the old custom house and replica weigh station building. I also remember when it was at Cass Square. Back then the top of the barrel was polished shiny from generations of kids using it as a slide.

Thr cannon was filled with concrete a long time ago by my grandfather, Steve Havill, when he was on the Council. He did that so it couldnt be fired

Great to see Colin Adams in this picture. I worked with Colin at WHS great guy. He was also involved with the Hokitika Rugby League club. He once did a black powder demo for one of my science classes. I bet the students still remember that day.
