Description This Store was a treasure trove of anything and everything for 51 years. On it's closing day in July 1977 2000 people turned up in the rain for an auction of it's chattels.

This store was spoken of in the Temple Sullivan's book "The Golden Bush ". A true tale of the depression years of the late 1920's and early '30s Describing it with it's goods ranging from groceries and gumboots to petrol and gold pans. The proprietor was one of those people who could put his hand on the shelf or under the counter and produce anything you asked for.

If you have any interest in this area read the books written by Nelson author Temple Sutherland , a young Scot who immigrated to NZ and relocated from the Nth Island in the 1930s to find work in the Buller , he lived largely off the land in a tent with his wife Sam and Cocker Spaniel around the Gowan fossicked for gold while still trying to find work for his tip truck. Book THE GOLDEN BUSH .
