Remember a slip there in the 1950s where we had to get out of the bus walk across the area to another bus to get to St Pats school in Greymouth and the same actions returning after school. Those were the days?

Just missed our old house at Greymouth end of the photo. A lot of ground lost since this photo circa 1905'ish

What date in the 1950s did the slip occur? We have Sam McAra's home movie footage of clearing some of the slip, and over 100 pages of correspondence between NZ Railways and members of the family who had houses directly affected ... Relocated house to Cobden as a result.

I went to Greymouth to work for Ferguson Earthmoving in 1954- and my first job was the Omoto Slip they lost three or four houses in the first slip

Remember it well was went out to check it on the trolley from the cobden bridge site it had dropped away stopped all trains with train control and contacted kiwi grade 1 ganger was a huge.job to get it opened again from memory was weeks closed

The bare white rock you see in the photo is not the result of a slip. Baxters carted limestone from there to the crushing plant at Wallsend at that time.

Stuart Dowie. The white 'rock' is really mass of small limestone 'bits' which had been eroded from Peters Range above the slip area, and yes pure limestone so good for garden & field.
