I remember that being done.i remember watching the cable on the crane and one could hardly see any movement and all of a sudden the abandoned locomotive appeared from the depths of the Grey river. It was in remarkable condition after being under water for years.in fact when an "0il box"was opened one of bogies the oil was black and absolutely no water in side the box . The locomotive was transported to Springfield where it is now sitting in a paddock near the railway station in a dryer climate. Hope they get her going someday

I got the resource consent for there removal from riverbed. They were quite away from the bank by this stage. The La was to go to Reefton for display. I went overseas and the trust had let others gain control of consent
