About this image
DescriptionCoral Webster hangs out the washing as her husband, Gordon (right) confers with friend Ken Norton, outside the Greyhound Tavern at Arahura. It is a warm friendly pub with generous hosts and jovial clientele, some of whom can polish of 8 or 9 jugs in an afternoon, no sweat!,while others enjoy baiting fellow drinkers by starting heated arguments, then sitting back singgering as the whole pub jumps about.During such debates, the swear box on the wall does well.In the 1982 flood, the miners, the deerhunters and the Maoris who fished the river for whitebait, stood in a metre of water at the bar drinking and firing at ducks swimming about.Date of Photo1980`sMap[1] ContributorHeather Newby

I have memories as a kid of sitting in the car outside the pub with a bag of chips and a raspberry & coke when Mum and Dad were in there...and then later on when old enough (or maybe not legally haha) going there and singing with the locals from the Arahura Pa down the road. Great pub, great people and great memories.
