Blaketown School? The RSA? Greymouth museum?

Shantytown has an archive facility?
Chris Windley
RSA is a worthy place for this.
Robin Gibbens
This should never have ended up in this position. Very important part of our history,
Craig Terris
Marty is that a rellie in the middle column?
Marty Byrne
Craig Terris don’t think so mate - no Byrnes down this way related to me. All my rellies down here were Guerin’s
Mirama Mcfadyen
Well saved, someone should be ashamed of themselves for dumping something like this. Yes I would go with RSA first or even local church. Well done you.
Paul Smith

Not connected to me but it is appalling that this was thrown out and not respected or valued. Who would do such a terrible thing. Too many things of historical value just disappear into private hands or thrown away, then no one is held accountable. At least the above poster is a good person and is looking to put this list of sad sacrifices where we should remember them. I would like to know where it used to hang as that would be the last place to now hang it.
Johannes Debreuk
As the President of the RSA we could find a fitting place for it. Respect for the fallen
Paul Smith
Johannes Debreuk Heather Newby. Sounds like the RSA are offering a fitting home for the Honours Board.

Linda Skelton i was thinking..maybe the blaketown hall?

Linda Skelton
Heather Newby might give a clue as to where it should be displayed. I think it was common for Halls etc to be built as a memorial with the roll of honour inside

Linda Skelton yes.. there was something else.. i cant quite remember what it was that was recovered from the wreckage of the Blaketown hall..i think it was cups and plaques... someone rescued them before the bulldozer got there

Heather Newby thats sad. ive heard of stuff dumped cause no one wanted it when they hadnt asked anyone ! so sad to hear also of things that just vanish from public view and no one knows where to. Its history that needs saving. perhaps the local School At least the above poster is a good person and is looking to put this list of sad sacrifices where we should remember them. I would like to know where it used to hang as that would be the last place to now hang it.
Heather Newby
Linda Skelton yes.. exactly.. a lot of those names on that board were familiar to me too..
Linda Skelton
Perhaps it would be a good lesson for the children to search out just who these men were, age, what they did before they were sent overseas even where they are buried. Were they married, have children?
Leslie McKendry
Having done that for 2 of my Extended Family that didn't come back from WW1, I would agree with Linda Skelton. What they will find will help understand 25 April and 11 November particularly how much we owe to those that gave their tomorrows so we could have our todays.
Dianne Smith
Put it in the R.S.A. as they are the war building to display things like that & thank you to the guy who wants to donate it. Well done.

Dianne Smith the Greymouth RSA has offered to be the custodians. The honour board would not look out of place
Paul Smith
Johannes Debreuk Unfortunately the present custodian does not like the RSA offer. In her / his words, because of the condition of the guns outside the RSA premises.
Johannes Debreuk
Paul Smith they will be painted. I have only been in the Chair since May this year. Probably Feb/ Mar 2021 they will get done. As they say Rome wasn’t built in a day. It’s pretty impressive inside the building
Paul Smith
Johannes Debreuk difficult to understand the logic re; the guns as a rejection of the RSA offer. Good luck.
Johannes Debreuk
I have made the offer Paul.
Kaye Brown
Kevin & l think the suggestions of offering to the RSA is really appropriate.
Johannes Debreuk
Sooooo the outcome is ???

To add to my previous comment above, I am currently Secretary of the Greymouth RSA Executive Committee....I see our President has commented on here as well.
I fully support Johannes Debreuk's comments and I know from all the hard work going on at the RSA by the current committee and members that an appropriate place to display the board in a manner befitting and honoring their service will be provided.
Everyone at the RSA is working hard to tidy things up including the guns.....they are on the painting/maintenance list and we also have a member who is dedicated to cataloguing and looking after the memorabilia.....there is a lot of work being done.
Paul Smith
Marianne Kelly. Is the Honour board now with the RSA?
Marianne Kelly
Paul Smith no, havent heard from anyone.....and dont think Peter has either as I've just seen him at an RSA meeting.
Paul Smith
This is the second post Liz Ard has posted in the past year asking for suggestions where the Honour board should end up, with no result. Time for admin to delete Liz Ards posts as the Honour board is going nowhere.
