South Island under-21s who beat previously unbeaten South Sydney juniors in (I think) 1968. Billy Noonan captain. RIP Gary Cowan, died in Christchurch Hospital this week, the night before his 73rd birthday.

Player to the right of captain, Bill Noonan, who is carrying the ball, is Bill Crome, then from Otago. Originally an Ozzie, Bill, a loose forward, was one of those who organised the ground-breaking first official secondary school Rugby League match in NZ, Hillmorton HS v Aranui HS.
