DescriptionStopped at the Lyell on our trip from Reefton to Nelson at my great grandfathers memorial. Peter "The Greek" Mangos had The Post Office Hotel in the gold mining era. My Grandmother, Althea Rose was his youngest daughter.

My Mother Chrissie Pupich, (they lived at new Creek), worked for the Mangos family at the Lyell hotel, she had very fond memories of the Mangos family that she shared with us.

We have called there a number of times, including last week. . We bought Con's house/store in Inangahua. Went to school with Raymond, Doug and Fay there before they moved to ChCh. Con saved my life by rushing me into hospital with a burst appendix. No ambulances then. I was forever grateful. Worked with a Policeman who married one of Doug's daughters, and then run a rental car company. I remember old Greek being the roadman from the iron Bridge to the 12 mile where Sid Reid took over the potholes of the Buller Gorge.
