Definitely not the Jewish synagogue in other photo, but across Tancred Street on the east side there was a Wesleyan church reserve and a Congregational church reserve listed on town map 1867. Wesleyan church reserve shows a building. P May, Hokitika -Goldfields Capital

Honestly it could be anywhere around or even in Hokitika , that's a very very early photo 1867.

Anthea Keenan was spot on and this is the first Hokitika Anglican Church. I found other photos with it labelled as such. Same general area as the current Anglican (All Saints) church but a different building and alignments.
