DescriptionA couple of photos taken about 1982-84 by my late Mum Elaine Bartram. Kokatahi Hotel and some derelict old shops presumably around the same area although I wasn't there so can't say for sure.

Filming that movie Magik and Rose, playing in the church over the road, collecting eggs from the chickens and Ebonee tipping the massive coin jar over that sat on the pub counter

Daph and Ernie Powers wedding was a bloody good night and day here...we went right through the night...Gary mixed us up a great concoction to sober us up for breakfast...great memories and great people

I was at kowhiterangi in the late 60s we had the tavern at the junction and the kokatahi hotel publican was Baldy Baldwin we drank at the pub as my neighbour had been banned from the Tavern. Baldy wasn’t a beer drinker As a result he had the worst beer on the coast but it was a great atmosphere

the catholic church was right next door.Fr Bill Middleton christened our son there with one of mr weastells Uncle HANZ jugs and Mr Weastell provided a very chilled 9gallon keg for the after match function at our home .memories precious memories

Remember hiding in there bed a few times when the cops did a raid if we didn,t have time to run out the back and jump the ditch, lol going out there Johnny paid me to play the piano every Saturday night and free drinks for Ian and I needless to say I become the guinea pig for all his new cocktails , loved it the meals were amazing .

Stayed there in the late 1970s with my then boyfriend whose relatives owned the pub. Roast dinner on Sunday night but every other meal was cheese toasties. Had to drive to Hoki just to buy fish and chips - something different from greasy toasties!

I stayed in the pub in the 1980s. Meals were good. The bed and bathrooms were tidy and clean.
My mother Lorna Laing (Kemp) as a young girl, mid 1930s, rode a pony into the bar one Saturday afternoon. Some one had bet the bar she could and he cleaned up. They even shouted the pony a beer

Jimmy -Fr Bill -last time i saw him on active service was a funeral at Christ the King catholic church in greers Ilam .IIRC hed actually been promoted to monsignor -one rank below archbishop.he was another enormous character of whom i could tell a few tales -man of god ,entreprenur partowner of one of the finest gallopers to grace the westcoast circuit(BP Molloy can you name it and in his time in hoki he dabbled in standard breds too!
