DescriptionSam Taylor of Ngahere was part of the NZEF in Europe, and was the sweetheart of Helen McGregor of Blacks Point, corresponding throughout Sam's time in Europe.
Dated 21 September 1918 the NZ Rifle Brigade Christmas publication provided servicemen the opportunity to send their best wishes to those at home in time for Christmas and New Years celebrations.
Despite their warm exchanges while Sam was serving both Helen McGregor and Sam Taylor married other people, but subsequently in the 1960s they both met up again and were married. My great grandmother was lydia matilda taylor.two of her brothers john and robert married macgregor sisters!! I wonder if they are related!!the macgregor sisters descend from a maori chief.my g great grandparents were william taylor and elizabeth fairbrass

Barbara Macilquham this Sam Taylor from Ngahere was born in 1896 at Wallsend to a Sydney and Isabel Taylor. The McGregor family of Black's Point are my immediate family, and there don't appear to be any other Taylor whanau in their tree currently so suggest your great grandmother is not connected with our McGregor tree that I can see. I have not gone very deeply into the Taylor branch of our tree. Only determining details of Sam's parents and children from his first marriage as I had hoped that some of the descendants of Sam's first marriage may have appreciated the photos of himself he shared in his correspondence with my great aunt Helen McGregor. Keith Funnell thanks.my taylor tree are from kent and cornwall originally i think.they settled in the wanganui area i think.my father was born in palmerston north.codie taylor is mnt to b a relative on the taylor/macgregor tree.it may b just coincidence about the two lines hooking up.my eldest sister and i hav had dna tests dun so sum1 may pop up!!Keith Funnell

This was my uncle .dads oldest brother .was over 90 when he died and was still driving .lived in Henderson last i knew .had a son wilfred and a daughter pam who lived on Waiheki is for some time .used to write years ago but would be long gone now

Betty Brown ... exactly !!! Also another sister Avis I understand. I would be interested to know of any other history of Sam and Helen you might know, as I never met either of them, while I find Helen’s collection of correspondence intriguing
