It would be over 50 years since we've seen prices like that? There was a big inflation spike with the two oil shocks in the 1970's and we are in the midst of another inflation spike at the moment due to both external and internal government related factors. Back in the 1960's I could buy a good lunch with two shillings.
Janet Sutton
Glenn Johnston I remember going to the Saturday movies at the Regent with a shilling. 6p to get into movie and 6p to spend at Stapletons at half time!!
Trish Barry Andrews
Glenn Johnston wine gums and aniseed balls 5 for 1p and I think Buzz Bars were 3p. A gallon of petrol and a jug of beer about the same price 40p, Baz.

Judy Fishburn

Cobb & Co in Chch have a huge board on entry showing price list of the past lol. It is gobsmacking.
Kevin Oregan
I remember time of a beer price increase and Paynters bush crew wanted to strike in Whataroa because they could no longer buy a jug, packet of smokes, and a game of pool for a dollar!!
Helen Joan Forrest
