By: Alister MacPherson23rd Apr 2024 5:25PMHi Jo until recently I had some really old Masonic Installation Summons in my possession & names such as Hindmarsh,Lawn,Banks,& Newcombe all well known Reefton names were listed. In more recent times 1980s or around that time Vern Newcombe from Reefton became DGM for South Island EC.Although now resident in Auckland I still visit The Coast 2 -3 times a year.
By: Alister MacPherson23rd Apr 2024 5:18PMBoth my Grandfather George MACPHERSON (Totara Flat & my Father Noel MACPHERSON (Totara Flat) were members of Robbie Burns No 50 Reefton.Noel my Father was apparently also a member of Pacific Reefton 1453 EC.In 2008 or 2009 at 125th celebrations of Robbie Burns Dad Noel was oldest living member.I am now coming up 30 years in The Craft & am still a member of Greymouth 1233 EC.Once a Coaster always a Coaster
By: Jo Wynne5th Feb 2021 7:18AMI am fairly certain that my gt grandfather William Hindmarsh (Waratah) is sitting in the front row, 4th from the right - white hair and beard. He died 1919, aged 84 and was active in the Masons in Reefton and before that in Greymouth he is often mentioned in articles about Mason activities his many talents including music and art. He was well known for his script. the 10 commandments and the lettering over the transept in St. Stephen's church are his work. He did many illuminated addresses including one for John Bevan who was high up in the Masons on the Coast. A full description of this Lodge in Shiel St. when it was first opened was written by him and can be found in the Inangahua Times 14th July 1892.
I wonder what your gt. grandfather's name was Rowan, and where he is in the photo? I would love to know who some of the other people are.
