DescriptionOur Country Church at Kowhitirangi, so much time and care building ... a special Community place of worship, used to be full when we were young. Dorothy Wills the roof was replaced during our time there I remember doing the fundraising for it!!

It’s an absolutely beautiful building! It sits empty all the time, unloved and unused, even with the best intentions of fixing it up for use it would get neglected again after time. I think it should be converted into a lovely small house and rented out as a holiday home, that way it gets to be loved by many again, used and enjoyed often, taken care of consistently and the money put in is not wasted- it will pay for itself after a little time

Penny Coleman a great idea — it is the only way to go with old buildings and especially churches ⛪️ as I am on the St Mary’s church in Hokitika trying to save it— it cost huge money and people just do not go to church anymore

What if it was turned into some sort of community hall? Does it have facilities? Shame to see an old building wasted. Nice idea of an air bnb type thing too

Krystel Kereama Lynch there’s a community hall right next door, the committee has worked their butts off keeping the old hall alive and have done a wonderful job but even that is not used a lot.

Penny Coleman oh that's so sad to hear. Small communities need a person to push for more small events to get the hall used. Hard one though, cos small communities usually don't always have that one person who has the time to do all the organising when they usually working on the farm or whatever.

We have greatest respect for those people who were out the Valley early times - good to see the historic pics attached here which Bette Davies (Havill/Jones) displays... Dick Jones Warden, Mavis Cron Organist., the Godfreys, Smiths... we biked six miles to & back when doing our confirmation studies or get off the school bus there to do..lots of baptisms, weddings.. it is so much an important part of Kowhitirangi and us...

As it hasn't been used for years I wonder if it could be sold and the money shared to another or other churches nearby or in hokitika.
I reckon it would be amazing to make it a house.

I’m Donna ,née Murphy , my grandad helped build that church, I attended services there with my Grandmother, my Grandparents were Samual and Amy Godfrey, I feel very proud and nostalgic when I visit, would be very sad for me to continue to see deterioration.
