DescriptionGreymouth hospital demolition, started January 19, 2021
Ann Knipe:
it is confusing as back then this block was Couston/Hannan as you and I know it - but they later moved Barclay into Couston and Morice into Hannan - which is what it is now. The original Barclay Wd then became Day Surgery and McBrearty.Date of Photo2021Map[1] ContributorLaura Mills

The sad truth is the people who work....or have worked there have put their soul and heart into it...only to be destroyed by the stupid fools up top who have no idea of how a Hospital should be run...it’s all about profit....they do not understand that sick people are not a supermarket.
Diane Harmon Tackney
Linda Howard I agree - I was in there in Oct last year for 12 days the nursing staff were absolutely fantastic but was not pleased with the medical staff at all what do you expect when they are locums bought in from different parts of NZ

I found this 1970's photo of the hospital construction. The circled building is the area that is being demolished at the moment. Behind it is the area that was to be the site of the 'new' theatre block and Central Sterilizing.

The men who built the old hospital say there was so much steel put in when it was being built that it would never fall down. I suspect the same can't be said for the new one.

The sad truth is the people who work....or have worked there have put their soul and heart into it...only to be destroyed by the stupid fools up top who have no idea of how a Hospital should be run...it’s all about profit....they do not understand that sick people are not a supermarket.
Diane Harmon Tackney

I was very sick as an 11 year old in 1994 and I will be forever grateful to Sue Rapley and Alice Faulkner for their care and support for the 9 months I was in Parfitt ward. I believe you helped to save my life. I cannot thank you enough.
