She walked 6 miles along the beach to attend Brighton school in those days . If we are talking about the West Coast Brighton in the Fox River area then the 1860 date is wrong. It was not until November 1866 that this area was rushed.

A quick look at a book reveals that the Price's were at St Kilda, up the beach from Brighton, in 1899. William Price was a miner.

Note the footwear. Women wore boots in those days because of the amount of walking they had to do, and on rough stony roads. (All boots in those days had heel- and toe-plates, to cut down on wear on the soles.)
