Anita Lorraine Barltrop It happened near Stillwater, on the far side of the river opposite the Kiwi Tunnel . A woman entered the Grey to use it as a toilet, and was tragically swept away. Her husband’s report of this was not believed, but they decided to re-enact the incident. Local people warned about dangerous currents, so a male was chosen rather than a woman, and he was lost.

Very sad.I also Remember the day Constable Neville Christie died while boarding a ship in Greymouth.Slipped on gangplank and hit his head and drowned from memory.
