Lots of coal burned before it left. Winter 1974 smelled of coal being burned. We had a truck load on our back lawn. Gone by spring.
I did not know it was so harmful.
I do now.

Impessive photo. Lot of memories there.... the age of steam. Can still smell the belching smoke, hear the shrill whistle of the engine and the wheels clacking along the lines.

It would appear that the nearest steam crane the oldest type was being dismantled as no wire ropes on the jib. There use to be two of that vintage so the first of the new Cowan and Sheldon electric cranes (mid 50's) must be in operation.
