Steve Lowe excuse me Mr Lowe Seaview was a psychiatric hospital and nursing school.I trained and worked there in the 1970s.

You're correct - I meant to write psychiatric and psycho-geriatric hospital. When I was a kid some of the older people in town called it the "Mental" but there were a lot of people there with dementia/alzheimers or IHC people who we wouldn't call psychiatric today.

Yes also Westland hospital, nurses home or hostel and ponamu rest home my Mum worked there, Penny (Pauline) RIP. I worked there 2001. Peter Ryan, RIP.

Have recently learnt about Seaview Hospital after finding out so many patients were buried in already occupied graves in Hokitika cemetary

Sandi Greenlees Dr Black was the orthopaedic surgeon, worked Westland for many years, finished at Grey Hospital before he retired

Martin Burt youre right Marty -Lindsay Black was renowned NZ wide for his orthopaedic surgical skills especially in spinal fusions. When the WCDHB ordered him to move his surgery to Greymouth he famously refused unless they accommodated his entire surgical team-it was quite some stoush but he won out (mid 70's).He did a hip replacement on my late grandmother and since her recovery was so rapid within 6weeks he did the other as well. She couldnt speak highly enough of him.

my mother was in the hospital from 1958 till 1960 the shifted to cashmerre in chch she came back in 1964 and again in westlandtill late 65 then we had to go up for treatment every second wednesday when drs andycott and garlic had appointments with many coasters,she was out of air so we taxied up and walked back down town after treatment though the hospital grounds,there was loverly gardens swimming pools ,glasshouses,,football fields bowling greens,,there were a lot of patients enjoying there day,we got to know several in passing by,over the years i have got to know many who worked up there shame it ever stopped realy,,

Played cricket there when I was milking cows for mick Larkin from Rotomanu still keep in touch with Bill Larkin 95 his brother up in Auckland I’m pretty sure Micks son David had the garage at moana for a long time but I remember playing cricket and some of the people up there picking and eating the grass something I had never seen before... I think Bruce Tones was the cricket teams captain
