DescriptionThe Southern Alps / Kā Tiritiri o te Moana can be seen in the background. Batten went to stay in Franz Josef / Waiau after being advised by medical professions to rest after her 1936 England - New Zealand flight and tour of New Zealand.

Bronwyn Daisy Scott.."I don't think Jean Batten got the recognition she deserved in NZ or the World. We should put her on a pedestal. A VERY courageous Woman. A great aviator who died in 1982 from a dog bite after she refused treatment. She is buried in Spain in a paupers grave."

I think it’s a shame the horses tail has been ‘bobbed’ given the fact the sandflies would have been atrocious! The mane has been clipped too so no protection for the eyes!

i just to live almost next to the bridge from 1986 until 1998 when i moved and before all these renovations there was bush on both sides off the bridge ,
