Jessie loved the Coast and its people and never forgot her roots.

Jessie believed and practiced educating the whole child and followed up her classroom contact by overseeing their wellbeing in life skills and sporting challenges. Mrs Thompson taught me for two years in Room 4 at Greymouth Intermediate in 1974/1975. How lucky was I! She taught me a lot about me as a learner,how to love reading and to read for enjoyment. She read aloud Charlie and the Chocolate Factory bringing alive the characters and whenever I read that book to my classes I tried to re enact Jessie reading it. She was a wonderful netball coach telling you when you didn’t put in the effort and getting the best out of you. Fond memories of teacher who loved children and worked hard to ensure she got the best from them. Great respect for this vibrant woman.

Mrs Thompson was one of those people you meet in your life that has an influence going forward .I was a bit of a shit at schoolI can still remember her giving me a verbal kick up the arse. She cut me some slack because I delivered her Press in the mornings before school rain or shine
