I can remember watching Harry Lemon cross the Buller River, up above the Domain.

Mary Kirkwood Mary that is so cool as I never saw this. I think there was Harry driving behind Knuk ? Is a local uMaury Sayers And Bob Forward. Who was one of Harry’s close friends, Bob was manager of Days Motors Christchurch.

Crossed from what we called the Green Bank above the rifle range western side river bank on the rapids to come out at the Domain near the Southon Crushing Plant. Harry was going to try crossing the sanded up Westport Bar also that year. Was only about 4 or 5 feet of water at low tide, But did not happen. Thats a good photo . In the good days when you just did something. No DOC or others to consult. In the days when you could buy Gelly or Dynamite over the counter at Bailley Agencies along with Dets and fuse. When we got a moter byke licence when you passed your car licence etc etc.

A couple of 4wds crossed the same.place about 5 years ago. Did it both ways without any problems.

Flag Mckenzie Its a wonder that someone did not tell them not allowed as disturbing the whitebait habitat or so on. Back in Harrys days the only 4whd vehicles were mostly ex army GMC or jeep or willies.

Probably a lot easier these days with good snorkels and diesel engines. The old jeep did well and Harry was pretty game when it came to that sort of thing.

Neil Burrell Possibly a couple of hundred meters above the bridge.Has been crossed there since.
