It is a horseback operated gate. The road is passing just north of where Castle Hill Village is now. As people were travelling through the stations grazing it mean gates went across the road so to ensure an easier method of passing they built these gates you could open from the saddle. I can't make out the mechanism quite but the long lever on each side indicates an over centre system and the angled pieces you can see the gate captured in appear to be swinging the gate open. Fascinating! I blew it up so you can see the fence and the mechanism. I think this is at Castle Hill. I would say it was a gate that they shut when the road was impassable due to heavy snow.

Hi everyone.
Recently spent time on the old airstrip above Gorge river. It was made by a mining company... nickel spoon? Does any one have information or photos of it when it was first built? I hope to get it usable again
